Nicki Minaj is a singer, song writer, actor and television personality who is known for her swift rap style and well-spoken lyrics. Her real name is Onika Tanya Miraj and she was born in Trinidad and Tobago. Onika was born on December 9, 1982 in the small-town, Saint James then later moved to Queens, New York with her family at the age of 5.

Nicki Minaj began her career in the music industry when she became a backup singer for a local artist in New York. She started to post videos of her work on Myspace which was later noticed by a local record label. Finally, she was noticed by the famous rapper, Lil Wayne. Nicki and Lil Wayne started working on records together and released their first mixtape Playtime Is Over in 2007. Moreover, as she continued to drop songs, Nicki gained more exposure and within a year she was named Female Artist of the Year at the Underground Music Awards.

Nicki signed to Young Money Entertainment in 2009 which is the label founded by Lil Wayne. Her first album with the label was titled Pink Friday (2010) and was featured at the top of the Billboard 200 chart. Nicki Minaj continues to dominate the music industry with her chart-topping songs.
